In January, 25 new coding clubs of Code Club UA start working in 25 towns and villages of Ukraine. In these unpaid clubs children aged 9-11 years will learn coding after British curriculum. Classes are conducted by teachers of informatics or volunteers who are computer programmers of Ukrainian IT companies. Within three months, Code Club UA opened 70 clubs in Ukrainian schools and libraries. Overall, there are more than 1850 clubs in the world. They are organized by Code Club World, a non-profit organization which originated in the UK in 2012. The mission of this organization is to give every child in the world a chance to learn coding, because the ability to write and read computer programs is as important for our new digital natives as ability to write and read words.
It is very simple to join the program. Developers who have some free time and desire to convey knowledge to children can become volunteers by filling out a form here: http://codeclubua.org/register/. A school or a library should just send an email to info@codeclubua.org,or register a venue on the map of Code Club World http://codeclubworld.org/. All learning materials are free.
Code Club is about fun, creativity and learning through exploring. It’s important that children enjoy their time at Code Club, and that it doesn’t feel like another school lesson. Code Club curriculums are unique. First, there is no theory – practice only. Second, one lesson – one finished project, so every child has its own ready-to-go project already after the first lesson. It is very important that the leaders of clubs are the developers who know and like their job.
At the moment, more than 20 venues of Code Club UA are waiting for their volunteers. 20 locations it’s about 200 children who want to learn coding.
